Welcome to the web site of the Bar Association of Queensland. The Bar Association of Queensland was established in 1903 as the professional body representing the interests of the members of the Bar in practice in Queensland. Whilst the scope and functions of the Association have broadened since its establishment, its main concern for the promotion of the cause of justice and maintenance of the standards of the Bar have remained. Since July 2004, the Bar Association has performed important regulatory responsibilities under the Legal Profession Act and is the issuing authority for practising certificates for those legal practitioners who wish to practise as a barrister. Membership, in various categories, is available to all persons who are admitted as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland. The Bar Association provides a wide range of member services, including, amongst other things, regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars, Conferences, mentoring through our pupillage system, and on-going professional advice and assistance. In addition to the usual advocacy and advisory work performed by our members, the Bar Association offers a complete range of dispute resolution services for use outside the courtroom. This site provides access to a range of information in relation to the Bar Association, its members and the professional services they provide, including the electronic Barristers’ Directory. We trust that you will find the information contained on this site useful.
